Acrylics & Pastel Workshop – Spring 2015

Discover the wonders of combining acrylic with Pastel in this spring session art class. Learn how to prepare your own pastel supports, explore composition with an acrylic, watercolour or ink underpainting and further develop the painting to completion with pastels.

Starts: Thursday April 2nd 2015 for 4 weeks 

(All dates will include 2, 9, 16 & 30 April)

Location: Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham

Subject matter and topics are to could include urban landscapes, seaside, skies, mountains or fields and other elements or wildlife in the countryside.

This workshops will include:

a) Preparing your own support for working with Pastel such as board or acrylic/watercolour paper

b) Developing composition and tonal underpainting using watermedia such as watercolour, acrylic inks or paint

c) Techniques in pastel painting unique for this working method

The general schedule for the four weeks is to develop a pastel painting as follows:

Week 1: Preparation of initial tonal sketch & preparing support.

Weeks 2: Develop underpainting and adjust tonal values. Learn about colour mixing & composition techniques

Week 3-4: Develop and refine painting using a combination of materials with pastel. Also learn how to finish and frame final work.

At the end of the 4 weeks at least one painting approximately 40 x 50 cm will be completed. For those at a more advanced level more may be completed depending on speed of working.

All techniques will be demonstrated and personal tuition provided throughout each class to help you develop your own individual painting.

All artist quality materials, paints and equipment is provided although students are welcome to bring their own.

Fee is £12.50 per week pay as you go or £50 to book the full 5 weeks.
