Much of my work as an artist involves providing art tuition and demonstrations for Educational & Community Projects alongside Voluntary Work in the arts sector.
I am delighted to announce that I am now registered as an Arts Award Supporter thus I can provide a selection of workshops & art classes suitable for schools and other educational organisations. Below is a summary of some of the community projects I have been involved with over the past few years. Please feel free to contact me if you have an arts project where professional artist skills are needed.
Local Art Classes & Workshops
Jul 2009 – present Organising and providing art tuition on a self-employed basis throughout the year in Acrylics/Mixed Media, Oil, Pastel, Watercolours, Inks, Artjournalling, Painting & Drawing and Calligraphy & Illustration at various locations in Cheshire. See workshops for more information.
Voluntary Work
February 2012 – present Project Coordinator for Cheshire Open Studios in association with Cheshire West & Chester Council. COS is a project supported by CAN (Cheshire Artists Network) that holds an annual event bringing together artists throughout Cheshire to exhibit their work in a gallery space and provide them with an opportunity to open their studios to the public over a series of weekends during September & October. Community Group Workshops & Working with Schools
Creating Art Journal Covers with Gelliplate Printing
February 2014 – Working with 50 students from Cloughwood Academy to create decorative artjournal covers as part of their Artmarks programme based on the theme of WWI. Session lasted the whole day working with small groups of 10-12 in one hour sessions. Included a demonstration using homemade Gelliplates to create decorative papers to cover the journals using stencils & acrylic paints followed by a short demo & intro into adding text using writing, stamping & rub-ons. Above are some examples of the covers created by the students during this workshop.
Art up Close – Spilling the Beans Project with Crewe Senior Forum
Autumn 2013 – Working as part of Art Up Close & Crewe Senior Forum provided a series of six workshops during 2013. The project involved working with 50+ residents of Crewe to create artjournal pages which were then displayed on a life-sized tree sculpture made from recycled materials. The exhibition of all the works completed from the project were taken on a touring exhibition around Crewe during 2014. For more information about the project visit the Art Up Close website here
Artist Inspired Artjournalling
March 2013 – Introduction to Artjournalling (Half-day Workshop) based on the theme of Gustav Klimt with students from Cloughwood Academy.
Session included some basic mixed media techniques for creating artjournal pages to add to their journals including creating texture & pattern, collage, image transfer & gilding.
Cultural Olympiad Celebrations
April 2012 – Cultural Olympiad Celebrations working with The Brooks Children’s Centre in Crewe alongside artist Michael Troy to create life sized banners for the Olympic Torch parade through Crewe on May 31st 2012.
Crewe Centenary Celebrations
Jan 2012 – MMU / Crewe Celebrations working with the Beech Road after school club & Wistaston Drama Group as part of a Cheshire East & Art Up Close project to create artworks for banners to be hung in Crewe town centre for the celebrations of 100/175 years of MMU/Crewe.
Beech Road based their banner on the Railway History of Crewe & Wistaston Drama Group based theirs on Emotions relating to the theatre and acting expressions and emotions. Both projects focused on the use of collage, drawing, painting & design to create imaginative and colourful artworks.
SKARTS – Revival of the Stockport Art Gallery
Jan 2011 – present Working as a volunteer as part of a group of artists called SKarts in organising and promoting the revival of The Open Contemporary Art Exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery for 2011. Primary responsibilities include website development, online marketing and providing art demonstration events.

Inspiring Art & Demonstrations
Jul 2011 Drawing Demonstration & Workshop, Castle Park July Festival 2011, in Frodsham encouraging people of all ages to utilise different media in drawing.
Working with Local Community Groups & Special Needs
Mar 2011 Provided tuition to a group of 15 people who are seriously ill, mentally and physically disabled over three workshops for Brusheads in Sandbach as part of a series of Acrylic Painting Workshops
Feb 2011 Upon special request organised and provided tuition to 10 beginners as part of an Introduction to Acrylics Workshop, as arranged with Frodsham District Women’s Circle, Frodsham and held at Castle Park Arts Centre
Jul 2009 – Dec 2009 Provided tuition and workshops to those with physical and mental disabilities as part of a trial for GP Referral Art Workshops at Winsford Lifestyle Centre
